Insiders
Turning Parkinson’s Disease Inside Out is a class designed and taught by Robert Cochrane PhD. It follows the template of Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey and the Pixar film Inside Out,
focusing on the emotions of Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust. These stories are written by people with Parkinson’s, or by people who have close relationships to those affected by the disease.
Sadness
by Linda Cochrane
“It’s quite difficult to recall my first memory of sadness, because sadness was such an ongoing, crushing memory throughout my childhood.”
Anger
by Christine Cochrane
“Again and again she encountered people from her past who had left her, kicked her out, spoken bottomless promises.”
Fear
by Susan Scarlett
Cancer and Parkinson’s Disease; “These two diagnoses are inextricably woven together in me.”
Fear
by Darryl Bertolucci
“My greatest wish is being able to view PD as a positive factor, finding harmony in discord.”
Joy and Sadness
by Doris Martin
“Sadness, you have been a most gracious host in allowing me this time to fully feel the loss and heartache of a dear friend.”
Disgust
by Terri VanBibber
“You say I’m walking into a cave, and I SAY I’m walking into a train tunnel with a bullet train blaring its horn and flashing its lights warning me to GET OUT.”
